Course Overview

In this course, we’ll explore how to identify Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI), differentiate it from dementia, and increase the accuracy of our etiologic diagnoses. We will review key clinical features and assessment tools, discuss available treatments, and suggest strategies for care planning in the home.

Learning Objectives

  • Upon completion, you will be able to:
    • Describe the clinical features and diagnostic criteria that distinguish MCI from various types of dementia.
    • Recognize through history, observation, and screening tools key functional, cognitive, and behavioral clues helpful in differential diagnosis relevant to treatment choices.
    • Apply appropriate assessment strategies in the home setting to monitor progression, engage caregivers, and guide care planning based on cognitive and behavioral status.

Audience

This online course is intended for home-based primary care providers, as well as coders, practice managers, and operations staff.

Estimated Time to Complete

30 minutes. In order to earn credit for participation in this activity, the learner must complete a 5-question post-test with a passing score of 80% or better with unlimited attempts.
